Beverage sector has lost ability to increase production, and consequently ils position in the food economy is weakening. Financial results of the beverage producers are deteriorating, and the average debt, particularly spirits and beer companies, is higher than in other sectors of the food industry. The reason for the stagnation is i.e. the fact that the beverages producers operate in the highly saturated market, which has entered a mature and relative stability stage. Moreover, the sector does not benefit from opportunities offered by globalisation and European integration, that is opening of the foreign markets.
