The seminal plasma of teleost fish contains a species-specific system of proteins with anti-trypsin activity. Serine proteinase inhibitors are one of the main proteins of fish seminal plasma and their electrophoretic pattern is similar to blood plasma. Anti-trypsin activity correlates with protein and sperm concentration. To date one of the proteinase inhibitors of seminal plasma of common carp and rainbow trout has been identified. It belongs to the serpin family and is similar to α₁ -antiproteinase. A characteristic feature of this inhibitor is the ability to form an irreversible complex with serine proteinases. Serine proteinase inhibitors of fish seminal plasma may participate in the protection of reproductive tissue and spermatozoa from proteolytic attack.
The aim of the study was to determine the influence of some pathogens on the serum level and dynamics of chicken cystatin and a1-protease inhibitor. The experiment was carried out on 150 Starbro chickens that were randomly selected into 6 groups. Group I was the control, group II and III were infected with REO virus and Marek's disease virus, group IV with invasive Eimeria oocysts, and V and VI with E. coli and S. aureus respectively. The level of chicken cystatin was determined by ELISA test and a1-protease inhibitor as an antitrypsin capacity. It was demonstrated that the concentration of chicken cystatin increased in chickens with the virus infection REO and MDV by about 54% and 29%, while with E. coli and S. aureus by 43%. The smallest changes, observed in chickens infected with Eimeria oocyst, amounted to 16%. In contrast, the authors only observed an increase of the level a1-protease inhibitor in coccidiosis. The authors postulate that chicken cystatin is more useful as a diagnostic parameter than a1-protease inhibitor in the analysed diseases.
In creative recombinative cultivation 4 strains were obtained of two crossing combinations, that were obtained by crossing in turn triticale var. Presto with Agrotricum strain CZR 1125/90. It was aimed to transfer genes from Agropyron to triticale as a source of resistance to pests, pathogenic agents and stress action of environmental factors. In extracts of hybrid kernels and parental components, the activity of trypsin inhibitors and alkylresorcinols level were studied. Extracts in two consecutive generations showed intermediary or higher antitrypsin activity than respective parental components. The level of alkylresorcinols in hybrid kernels in both generations was higher than in the parental forms.
