Due to extension of the Polish National Environmental Monitoring System, particularly the air pollution monitoring network, taking account of observations and measurements made in neighbouring countries is becoming increasingly important. The article presents the current research on air pollution in Slovakia and the monitoring system adopted by this country. Earlier studies on air pollution in Slovakia, the principles and organizational structure of the system which is being established, and the prospects for transboundary cooperation are discussed.
Krakow is world famous for its wealth of cultural heritage historic sites. But it’s not its only claim to fame. For many years Krakow has been classed as one of the most polluted cities in Poland, along with Lower Silesia region and Łódź conurbation. The statistical data show higher rates of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases amongst Cracovians. The article presents monitoring methods, study results and predictions for the future.
