The purpose of study was determination the energetic expenditure of triticale cultivation at different fertilization technique. There were calculated expenditure of treatments, natural resources, materials, durable means and equivalent of real work. It was showed, that the sum of the total energy expenditure in triticale cultivation was from 16723.2 to 21864.8 MJ ha⁻¹. The lower expenditures were with soil fertilization technique without objects with higher manganese dose (10.0 kg ha⁻¹) and with copper, zinc and manganese applied together at nitrogen dose 80 and 120 kg ha⁻¹ independent with microelement dose. The higher sum of total energy expenditure was with all microelements applied together before triticale sawing (to soil) depend on ferlilization before sawing with copper, zinc or manganese. There was not significant different in the same case with spray application of studied microelements. In the energy expenditure structure of triticale cultivation the higher participation (64.4–71.7%) was shoved with raw and materials, the lower (17.2–21.5% and 8.9–11.4%) with immediate energy carriers and exploitation expenditure and, the lowest (2.2–2.7%) with human work.
Periods of no activity between 02.00 and 10.00 and lasting for up to 7 h 40 min are reported for two captive Crocidura flavescens (I. Geoffroy, 1827). During one of these periods, the weight specific energy requirement of the shrew dropped to 25.1% of the usual, indicating a period of spontaneous torpor. Nest-box temperatures also drop during the periods of prolonged inactivity suggesting a lowered body temperature. Data for a younger animal suggest shorter periods of torpor. The timing of the torpor spans the coldest period of the day when the animal would expend most energy maintaining a constant body temperature.
Background. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential health benefits of peripheral strength training in women according to the ACSM protocol. Material and methods. This study involved 90 women aged 29.2±3.3 years, who performed three sets of 10 resistance exercises repeated 10-15 times with a 60% load of 1RM. Energy expenditure (EE) during the exercises was measured with the Caltrac Monitor accelerometer. Their intensity (relative EE) was expressed in kcal/min. Results were compared to the recommended volume of daily physical activity according to the proposals of Paffenbarter and colleagues. Effort of at least moderate intensity (5.5-7.4 kcal/min) was considered to be beneficial for health. Results. The average EE of the entire training was 293 kcal, resistance exercises 230 kcal and the average intensity effort was 7.3 kcal/min. It was shown that peripheral resistance training, according to the ACSM Protocol, allowed all examined women to fulfil pro-health recommendations for the volume and intensity of daily physical activity (in terms of absolute and relative energy expenditure). Conclusions. Peripheral resistance training in accordance with ACSM protocol can be recommended to women aged 25-35 as a form of implementation of pro-health recommendations in the scope of due daily energy expenditure on physical effort, as well as its intensity.

In this necessarily short review several physiological mechanisms influencing daily food intake have been presented. In the postabsorptive state the feeling of hunger is developing in our central nervous system, what stimulates the voluntary food intake. As it has been mentioned, all information coming to the hypothalamus from the digestive tract on the filling of the stomach and intestine and from the blood on the concentration of several metabolites, hormones and neurotransmitters, are integrated and coordinated there and adequate stimuli are going out for stopping the eating; some postprandial state characterizing the satiation is developing then. If the food intake is slightly higher than the daily energy expenditure, the metabolic rate is accelerated and heat losses from the body are augmented, what is possible by the stimulation of oxidation processes in the brown adipose tissue. As a result of an integration of all these mechanisms, the body weight of an adult man can be maintained at the same level during many years.
The aim of the performed experiments was to assess energy expenditure and static loads of the operator of a chain sawing machine harvesting timber in a pine stand intermediate cutting. The investigations included two technological variants. In variant I, all technological operations were carried out by one worker – operator of the chain saw, while in treatment II the operations were carried out by a team of three persons – two operators of chain sawing machines and a helper. The energy expenditure was determined on the basis of measurements of the ventilation of lungs, whereas the static load – using the OWAS method. The determined net unit energy expenditures of the chain saw operators in the experimental variants exceeded 20 kJ•min-1 and differed statistically significantly between one another. With regard to static loads, a greater proportion of positions negatively affecting the muscle-skeletal system of the operator were found in variant II.
Background. Adequate nutrition and energy intake play key rule during the training period and recovery time. The assessment of athlete’s energetic needs should be calculated individually, based on personal energy expenditure and Sense Wear PRO3 Armband (SWA) mobile monitor is a useful tool to achieve this goal. However, there is still few studies conducted with use of this monitor. Objectives. To assess individual energy needs of athletes by use of SWA and to determine whether their energy intake fulfils the body’s energy expenditure. Material and Methods. Subjects were 15 male students attending Military University of Technology in Warsaw, aged 19-24 years, practicing aerobic. The average body mass was 80.7 ± 7.7 kg and average height was 186.9 ± 5.2 cm, (BMI 23.09 ± 1.85 kg/m2). Assessment of physical activity and energy expenditure (TEE) was established using SWA, which was placed on the back side of dominant hand and worn continuously for 48 hours (during the training and non-training day). The presented results are the average values of these 2 days. Assessment of athletes’ physical activity level was established by use of metabolic equivalent of task (MET) and number of steps (NS). Estimation of energy intake was based on threeday dietary recalls (two weekdays and one day of the weekend), evaluated using the Polish Software ‘Energia’ package. Results. The average TEE of examined athletes was 3877 ± 508 kcal/day and almost half of this energy was spend on physical activity (1898 ± 634 kcal/day). The number of steps was on average 19498 ± 5407 and average MET was 2.05 ± 2.09. The average daily energy intake was 2727 ± 576 kcal. Conclusions. Athletes consumed inadequate amount of energy in comparison to their energy expenditure. Examined group did not have an adequate knowledge about their energy requirement, which shows the need of nutritional consulting and education among these athletes.
