The Act on Nature Conservation is fundamental to nature conservation in Poland. There have been enormous problems related to the proper formulation of this Act. It has been amended ten times during the past ten years. Such amendment procedures hinder the serious analysis of the purposes and tasks of the Act. The author, president of the “Man and Environment” Committee of the Management Board of the Polish Academy of Sciences, provides the Committee’s opinions on the last version of the Act. Issues that should be included in the governmental draft of the Act on Nature Conservation concern its compliance with EU legislation, the organisation of nature conservation services and human resource policy.
