Meadows and pastures, arisen out of a certain type of economic activity, are to a great extent being modified along the sequence under which some forms of economic activity are replaced by others. These changes result in a massive phenomenon of local extinction of plant species connected with previous forms of meadow management. Immediate measures should be taken to preserve the remains of natural meadow vegetation. So far, protection of meadow vegetation has been implemented along ongoing management projects in forest and landscape reserves. Separate meadow reserves have not been established. Thus, there is no relevant category in the present classification of reserves. Protective measures of meadow vegetation should involve protection of rare meadow species and specific forms of meadow vegetation. The authors present a detailed account of methods of meadow flora protection.
