Internationalisation of the trade sector in Poland occurred under the conditions of weakness of national manufacturers' brands. This factor set up for the foreign large-outlet networks excellent terms for building-up, in a short time-period, strong trade brands. A low level of Polish customers' income stimulated, first of all, growth of cheap trade brands. Contrary to the West European consumer, the Polish customer pays a significantly greater attention to product's price. Perception of trade brands is, therefore, in Poland different from that in rich EU countries where the trade brand has already been a synonym of good quality products. The author proposes various typologies of the strategy for development of own brand, based on the brand positioning, differentiating a range of own brands, forms of marketing communication and brand's reach.
