Poland has one-tenth of the world's resources of waters that can be used for health purposes. There are 115 intakes of such water in Polish spas, 98 of which are operated. The balneological treatment in Poland is now jeopardized. In 1991, the National Supervisory Board of the Polish Health Resorts was abolished, a year later the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare ceased to finance sanatoria of the Worker's Holiday Fund, and recently the Institute of Balneology and Physiatrics in Poznań which oversees treatment in Polish health resorts is being closed.
The authors present the history of the resort, with the details of therapeutic benefits of the its mineral waters, therapeutic indications, climate of the area, main sources of pollution in the Busko and Solec, and other threats to the resort. Both Busko and Solec are situated within Ponidzie, an area of significant natural, historic and cultural values which are often underestimated. The article refers in details to the main natural and material components of the complex of landscape parks of Ponidzie.
