The last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the new one are characterised in Poland by important economic, social and cultural changes, positive and negative ones. The result from improvement of the market mechanisms, European integration, ongoing globalisation, „macdonaldisation" what is translated into changes taking place in consumption, including that in services. The changes that have occurred in Poland since 1990 have created the grounds for formation in a new millennium of a consumer society, which aspires to a service-type model of consumption specific for the countries of „old" European Union. However, the Polish society is a society internally diversified and having a significantly lower income what causes that the possibilities to modernise the consumption patterns and to approach the situation where services play an important role are non-uniform and distant in time.
