The Western Bieszczady Mts. located in south-eastern border land of Poland differ from other parts of the Carpathians by the unique landscape, different botanical zonation, endemic fauna and flora, and unique geology, land relief and climate. The present landscape of the Western Bieszczady Mts. is dominated by forests covering areas previously used for farming. This is the effect of demographic and natural changes that took place over last sixty years following, the 2nd World War. The almost complete de-population and the power of nature allowed the area to revert to its primeval state of the Carpathian Forest. It has become extremely attractive to scientists, tourists and, above all, to nature conservationists.
