There was assayed the level of glucose, total bilirubin and the activity of choline esterase (ChE), asparagine aminotransferase (GOT), γ-glutamylotranspeptidase (γ-GT) in sera of calves infested once, twice or three times with Fasciola hepatica metacercaria (1650, 1650 plus 1550 or 1650 plus 600 plus 1500 respectively). In animals infested there was found an increase of GOT activity only in the prepatent period and a significant augmentation of γ-GT activity four weeks after infestation to the end of the experiment. γ-GT may be regarded as an indicative enzyme of the liver damage by F. hepatica in cattle. It is interesting that no influence of superinvasion was stated with respect to biochemical parameters.
Bisexual gland hermaphroditism was diagnosed in the sea gull by a macroscopic post-mortem examination. The reproductive tract of the bird was composed of two testicles and two excretory ducts of the testicles joined to the ovary, as well as of a left ovary and oviduct. The bird showed partly male and partly female external sexual characteristics.
