The antimicrobial activity of two new series of bis-piperidinium compounds, with alkyl chains of dierent length, against bacterial (Escheri- chia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and fungal strains (Aspergillus !avus, Aspergillus niger, Rhodolorula rubera, Lipomyces lopofera and Candida albicans), are described. Antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were compared to that of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride. Bis-piperidinium salts containing 12–16 carbon side chains showed better antimicrobial properties when compared to the standard dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride.
Textile industry wastewater plays an important role in environmental pollution. In the present study, the removal of actacid orange-RL (AO-RL) dye was carried out in batch mode with biocomposites. The optimum pH, biosorbent dose, equilibrium time, initial dye concentration, and temperature for maximum dye adsorption were recorded in the range of 3-6, 0.05 g, 60 min and 125-150 mg/L and 30ºC, respectively. Langmuir and Freundlich biosorption isotherms showed the satisfactorily fitness on equilibrium biosorption data, whereas the pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order both showed the satisfactorily fitness on biosorption kinetic data. The characterization of efficient biosorbents was carried out using FT-IR and SEM techniques, which revealed a significant change in biocomposite as a result of dye adsorption. Based on results, we can conclude that the biocomposite could be an efficient adsorbent for the adsorption of dyes from textile wastewater.
A uniform and eco-friendly heating source, ultraviolet radiation has auspiciously improved the disperse dyeing of polyester fabrics. For our current study we used disperse yellow 211 (DY 211) to dye polyester fabric under the influence of ultraviolet treatment. Both the fabric and dye solution were UV-treated for 15-60 min and dyed under variable conditions. We found that ultraviolet-treated polyester (RP) for 30 min. gives good color strength and darker shades at 70ºC using 70 mL of un-irradiated dye solution (NRS) of pH 8 in the presence of 2% of dispersant. While for the dye bath of pH 11, irradiated polyester (RP) for 45 min. using 90 mL irradiated dye solution (RS) gives good color strength and darker shades at 100°C in the presence of 1% of dispersant. ISO standards for fastness revealed good-to-excellent ratings for different shades dyed under optimal conditions. Ultraviolet treatment not only reduced the time, labor, and money, but also improved color characteristics.
