There were many members of the Pawlikowski family who contributed greatly to Polish culture: journalists, writers, politicians, scientists. The author focuses on those who where committed to the Tatras and their protection. The author puts an emphasis on Jan Gwalbert (1860-1939) who called for the preservation of uniqueness of the Tatras and the highland folk culture and who created the nature conservation movement. In 1934, he led to the enactment of the laws on nature conservation. He also prepared drafts of related acts on gaming, forestry and fishery.
