The studies dealt with the effect of potato concentration in crop rotation considering differentiated organic and mineral fertilization, on the contents of starch, protein, phosphorus, potassium and dry matter in tubers. Potatoes (cultivar Maryna) were grown in monoculture, two-field crop rotations and Norfolk crop rotation. Organic and mineral fertilization were varied within monocultures and two-field crop rotations (manure 20 or 40 t·ha⁻¹, winter catch crop - rye, NPK). The contents of starch, protein, phosphorus and potassium in tubers were determined at the flowering and at harvest of potatoes. Increasing percentage of potato in crop rotation also using the manure or ploughing it down with winter catch crop, increased starch yield. In both terms of testing the highest content of starch in tubers was observed in potato continuous crop as compared to two-field or Norfolk crop rotations. Fertilization used within the systems, especially with manure, affected the tuber quality. Application of the manure increased contents of phosphorus and potassium, whereas the content of total protein in tubers decreased after using manure.
The studies were caried out to determine the effect of potato concentration in crop rotation, considering varying organic and mineral fertilization, on growth and yield of potato. The research concerned potatoes growing in monocultural systems and two-field crop rotation with oats. Potato growing in Norfolk rotation was the control treatment. Organic and mineral fertilization were differentiated within cultivation systems (NPK, FYM, winter catch crop). The research were caried out in 12-14 years of monoculture. Number of plants, dynamics of emergence, percentage of different diameter tubers in yield, number and weight of potato haulms and leaf area were determined during completion of experiment. Potato growing in every of monocultural systems significantly decreased dry matter of tuber’s yield by 23-36%, while in two-field crop rotations insignificantly increased yield in comparison to Norfolk crop rotation. Fertilization applied within monocultures did not limit negative results of continuous potato cropping. Both, monocultures and two-field crop rotations with using FYM or ploughing it down with winter catch crop increased the number of stems, weight of potato haulms and leaf area. Potato growing in monoculture decreased the percentage of large tubers increasing percentage of small tubers in total number of tubers.
