Pea moth (Laspeyresia nigricana Steph.) is a major pest of integrated and ecological crops of pea in Poland, especially in south-eastern regions, were every year it causes high economic losses in the crop. Effective pea plants protection against pea moth is possible only in short period of time – from the caterpillar's hatch from eggs to the moment of biting into to the pods. Field experiments testing DiPel DF in studied doses – 0.5 and 1.0 kg/ha (in 2007) and 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 kg/ha (in 2008), against pea moth on pea, were carried out in 2007 and 2008, on experimental fields belonging to Research Institute of Vegetable Crops in Skierniewice and on the farm belonging to horticultural college in Powiercie. Nomolt 150 SC, at the dose 0.2 l/ha, was used as a standard compound. Spraying liquids were applied once, when first hatching caterpillars of pea moth were observed on plants. DiPel DF at doses 0.75 and 1.0 kg/ha showed very good effectiveness in pea plants protection against pea moth.
Pea moth (Cydia nigricana F.) is one of the most important pea pests. To achieve high efficiency of pea moth control by chemical methods it is essential to have an information about correct date of insecticide application. The aim of the study was to determine the optimum date of insecticide application to control of pea moth occurring on pea using pheromone traps for pest monitoring. The experiment was conducted in 2012 in the experimental fields of the Research In-stitute of Horticulture in Skierniewice and the Agricultural School in Powiercie. The results showed that in Polish weather conditions the optimal moment to start the treatment is about 10 days after the confirmation of the presence of the first pea moth males in the traps.
The studies on reduction of flower thrips (Thrips tabaci Lind.) population occurring on leek intercropping with herbs were carried out in the Research Institute of Horticulture in 2010–2011. The following herbs were used in the experiment: savory (Satureja hortensis L.), marjoram (Origanum majorana L.) and sage (Salvia officinalis L.). The results revealed that all three species of herbs might reduce flower thrip populations in the crop. However, large variation in the effectiveness of herbs in protection leeks against thrips during the growing season was also observed.
The aim of field experiments was to assess the possibility of using an insecticide containing spinosyn A and D and its effectiveness against the Thrips tabaci Lind. The experiments were carried out in 2010–2011 by the Research Institute of Horticulture (Skierniewice). Spinosyn A and D was used at a dose of 96 g/ha once and twice in the experimental combination. The results of conducted studies revealed a high efficacy of spinosyn insecticides in controlling T. tabaci in leek crops. Considering the above results, spinosyn A and D might be recommended and included in the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes.
In 2008–2009 field experiments on the possibility and effectivnes of insecticide containing spinosyn against the Thrips tabaci were carried out by the Research Institute of Vegetable Crops in Skierniewice. Spinosyn was applied at dose 96 g/ha and compared with seed dressing Nomolt 150 SC and control. The results of conducted studies revealed a high efficacy and usefulness of Spinosyn insecticides in controlling Thrips tabaci in onion crops. Considering the above results, spinosyn might be recommendet and includet in the IPM – programmes, with a special emphasis paid on organic farming.
