The aim of the paper is to present the way in which the contest testing the knowledge about Poland, „Do you know Poland - your country” develops patriotic attitude. The organisers, history, territorial range, an average number of participants and the awarded students schools were discussed. Also examples were provided of different, interesting contents and forms of questions through which participants are encouraged to develop their knowledge about Poland and to follow the actual events and problems, together with recognising the beautiful parts of the country. A big role in making the contest popular is played by the Internet (e.g. the website of the Department of Geography Didactics at the University of Łódź, dydaktyka.geo.uni.lodz.pl).
