Paper present the current state of studies on possibilities of using maize as industrial raw material. Collected reports concern mainly German and French investigations. The results of studies confirm the possibilities of wider use of maize grown in Europe for grits and flakes production in dry milling industry and alcohol distillation, specially destined for fuel utilization. However, the utilization of maize grown in western and central European countries as a starch source requires drying method improvement, more adequate varieties and production systems ensuring large uniform batches of maize grain yields.
