Influence of pine wood (Pinus syhestris L.) thermal modification on the withdrawal force of screws. In the study the force required to withdraw the screw from thermally treated pine wood was examined. Modification of pine wood was performed at a temperature range of 150 - 180°C. It was concluded that the process of wood modification does not significantly affect the force needed to pull a screw out, and therefore also the withdrawal capacity and the ability to maintain the screw. In the case of 3.5 x 35 mm and 4.0 x 35 mm screws, the withdrawal capacity constituted respectively 63% and 50% of the ability to maintain the screw.
The aim of this study was modification ash wood (Fraxinus L.) with furfuryl alcohol and maleic anhydride as a catalyst. Investigated the effect of modifying on product color. The modification of wood was conducted out in two steps. In the first step was treatment with a mixture of modifying wood, and then curing at 105°C. the values of WPG for modifications carried out with aqueous solutions of furfuryl alcohol are lower than those carried out with furfuryl alcohol with the addition of maleic anhydride use in the furfurylation process pure solution of furfuryl alcohol did not cause large changes in color of wood ash in comparison to the control. The darkening of the wood surface was affected by the addition of maleic anhydride.
Effect of temperature of thermo-mechanical treatment of pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) veneers upon gloss and wettability. The aim of investigations was determination of gloss and wettability of pine wood veneers after thermo-mechanical treatment. Rotary cut veneer sheets of pine wood and moisture content of 5% were chosen for the experiments. In laboratory hydraulic press was densification at temperatures of 150, 180, and 210°C, pressure 3 MPa, and time 3 min. Gloss of veneers was determined with the photoelectric method with PICO GLOSS apparatus. Wettability measurements were performed microscope methods with the goniometric eąuipment. It was stated, that temperature of thermo-mechanical treatment influenced on the course of gloss and wettability.
