Increasing stepping and land improvement measures in Poland lead to disappearance of habitats of a number of plant species growing in wet areas. The Greek valerian (Polemonium coeruleum) is such a species, already under the strict protection. It is a medicinal plant, honeygiving, used also as a decorative flower. The Greek valerian was planted in the former Soviet Union as a raw material for production of the expectorant syrup; its has sedative properties, much more stronger than the common valerian. In addition, it accelerates blood clotting, reduces arterial blood pressure and stabilizes the cholesterol level.
