The objective of the work was to assess the effectiveness of biofungicides Bioczos S and Polyversum applied by soaking cuttings prior to planting to control Verticillium wilt in strawberry. Studies included two strawberry cultivars (Honeoye and Elvira) with different resistance to Verticillium wilt. An experiment was established in a Verticillium wilt infected field. Strawberry cv. Elvira was more resistant to Verticillium wilt than Honeoye. It was found that the preparations applied in the experiment did not provide sufficient protection of both strawberry cultivars tested against Verticillium wilt. For Honeoye all the fungicides, in particular Previcur 607 SL and Bioczos S supplemented with humic acids, assured better survival of mother plants compared with the control. This cultivar was also characterized by higher yields obtained following application of fungicide Previcur 607 SL. No impact of either preparation on the number of runner plants was found.

Yielding of new dessert strawberry cultivars and their susceptibility to fungal diseases in Poland

The paper presents the results of experiments aimed at assessing the fruit produc­tion value of five new dessert strawberry cultivars of the short-day type: 'Figaro', 'Sonata', 'Salsa', 'Flair' (Clone 03-08-01) and 'Palomar', in central Poland. The standard cultivars were 'Honeoye' (early) and 'Elsanta' (mid-early). The experiments were carried out in 2008-2009 in the experimental fields of the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice (Central Poland). Under assessment were the following characteristics: the yielding of plants (marketable yield, fruit size, sus­ceptibility of fruit to decay caused by grey mould, fruit firmness, soluble solids and vitamin C content in the fruit) and the susceptibility of the plants to leaf diseases and verticillium wilt. The late-baring cultivar 'Salsa' was recognized as the most useful for cultivation in Poland. It is characterized by high yields and produces large, firm fruit with high vitamin C content, shows a high resistance to leaf diseases and verticillium wilt. The early-bearing cultivar 'Palomar' is also of interest - it yields very good crops, produces large and very firm fruit, but its susceptibility to verticillium wilt is not yet sufficiently known. The cultivars in this study need to undergo further evaluation in terms of their susceptibility to low temperatures.

Porażenie wybranych odmian truskawki (Fragaria x ananassa) przez Verticillium dahliae

Badania prowadzono w latach 2007-2008 w Instytucie Sadownictwa i Kwiaciarstwa w Skierniewicach na polu doświadczalnym o dużej zawartości inokulum V. dahliae w glebie („pole śmierci”). Objęto nimi łącznie 35 genotypów truskawki, rosnących w 4 doświadczeniach odmianowo-porównawczych. Rośliny frigo badanych odmian wysadzano do gleby od końca kwietnia do połowy maja, zaś ocenę stopnia porażenia roślin przez werticiliozę wykonywano w odstępach miesięcznych, w okresie od sierpnia do października. Stosowano skalę bonitacyjną 0-4, w której 0 - oznacza brak symptomów choroby, 4 - bardzo silne symptomy, prowadzące do zamierania roślin. Najmniejszym porażeniem przez V. dahliae odznaczały się rośliny odmian: ‘Elkat’, ʻSenga Sengana’, ʻEvie II’, ‘Salsa’, ‘Aga’, ‘Chandler’, ‘Fara’, ‘Daroyal’, ‘Dukat’, ‘Favette’, ‘Filon’, ‘Salut’, ‘Vikat’, ‘Elianny’, ‘Albion’ i ‘Vima Rina’. ‘Elsanta’, ‘Sonata’, ‘Darselect’, ‘Camarosa’, ‘Susy’, ʻCharlotte’, 03-08-02 oraz ‘Figaro’ były w średnim stopniu porażone przez ten patogen. Najsilniej porażone były natomiast: ‘Gloria’, ‘Ventana’, ‘Vima Xima’, ‘Kent’, ‘Malling Pearl’, ‘Record’, ‘Nancy’, ‘Florin’, ‘Portola’ oraz ‘Medina’.
