Diversity of ancient woody species in urban forests

Mostly parks and forest are the most important ‘green islands’ in urban ecological network. Urban forests are belong to green areas and collected many plant species. The main aim of the article was characteristic of ancient plant species in urban forests in Tarnów. The field studies were carried out in years 2011–2012. It covered 80 phytosociological records on the area 500 m2 in herb layer of urban forests and in forest nature on oak-hornbeam. The results showed that many ancient plant species were growing in urban forest but less than in nature reserves.
In the suburban and urban forests in the cities of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia (northern Poland), Ixodes ricinus ticks should be considered as the vector of pathogenic microorganisms that may cause significant diseases in wild and domestic animals and humans. These microorganisms include etiologic agents of Lyme disease, human anaplasmosis (HA) and babesiosis: Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Babesia microti, respectively. DNA extracts from 701 ticks collected in 15 localities were examined by PCR for the simultaneous detection of these 3 pathogens. Overall, 14% were infected with A. phagocytophilum followed by 12.4% with B. burgdorferi s.l. and 2.3% with B. microti. In total, the percentage of infected females (32.9%) was 2.4 times higher than in males (13.7%) and 3.2 times higher than in nymphs (10.3%). Among adult ticks (n = 303), 8.3% were dually infected with A. phagocytophilum and B. burgdorferi s.l., 2.0% with the agent of human anaplasmosis and B. microti and 0.3% with borreliae and B. microti.
The majority of podzolic soils among the soils of forest-ecosystems is characteristic of the immediate surroundings of the city of Zielona Góra. In the smaller areas, rust and brown soils are evident, and in the low-lying enclaves also mursh and black earth. Changes in use (the area is more heavily used than before) and in the tree stand (the mechanical works and the litter character changes) as well as the changes in the surroundings of the forest-park complexes affects many changes in the soils. Changes are observed in the soil profile - in the direction of forest-cul- turozems forming and in the soil chemism (increase of the pH value of the soils top layer, increase of the heavy metal content). Field researches show soil profile displacements in many places. This is due to tree felling and roads, alleys atl. building intern the park complex, very often using hard materials (rubble, slag, breakstone a.s.o.). As the areas described are located near housing estates, the surface of the soils is enriched with different waste materials. Soil samples show differences (in comparison with natural soils) in pH value, mechanical composition of the profile layers, organic matter content and enrichment of the heavy metal content.
