Scabies was observed in 9 species of mammals at the Zoological Garden of Łódź in years 1957-1989. Sarcoptes scabiei spp. was found in capybaras, tapirs and camelids. Notoedres cati was recorded from the siberian tiger, but Notoedres sp. from the Erinaceus europaeus. Scabies was also found in a wild sead Tapla europaea at the Zoo area.

We have analysed all the reported and diagnosed cases of scabies in the years 1999-2000 per 100000 inhabitants in the Łódź voivodeship. The data was obtained from the Regional Administration Unit for the Control of Epidemics and Hygiene Promotion in Łódź. The incidence in Łódź voivodeship was found to be twice as high (89,0) as that in Poland (44.0). The highest incidence in Łódź voivodeship was found in Radomsko (268,0), Pabianice (149,0) and Kutno (148.5) districts. The number or new cases registered in 1999-2000 did not increase in the districts: Łęczyca, Radomsko, Łowicz and Bełchatów.

In 1966-86 there were 1 675 213 cases of scabies in Poland. The highest incidence (580.5) per 100 000 inhabitants was noted in 1968, the lowest (41.7) in 1986. The highest morbidity falls on autumn and winter. The highest proportion of cases are children and teenagers (0-19 years old), the second group consists of people aged 20-64, the third - over 65 years old. Most frequent were single cases of scabies, but there occurred also group infections in families, schools, boarding schools and establishments. In the discussed period the losses brought about by this disease, in case of people 20-64 years old only, amount to 1 836 234 days of the sick leave, while the average absence in 1980 was 82 500 days.

The incidence of scabies disease was analysed among women, men and children in Katowice in 1993-1997. The materials came from the Municipal Hospital of Dermatology and from the Clinic of Dermatology in Katowice. From the analysis of materials follows that the precentage of infected women and men was low in the studied period and fuctuated between 0.5% and 1.8%. Higher percentage appeared among children. The precentage of hospitalized children was higher (9.4%-12.6%) than at children from the clinic (2-2.4%). The most cases concerned children between 1 and 5 years old.

In animals infested naturally with Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis and roundworms there was assessed the efficacy of drugs containing moxidectin (Cyanamid production). The drug proved to be useful in the control of scab especially in the form pour-on at the rate of 0.5 and 0.75 mg per 1 kg, and 0.4 mg per 1 kg of body weight in case of injection. Effective elimination of intestine roundworms took place only following the pour-on administration of 0.5 mg per 1 kg of the drug or 0.2 mg per 1 kg in the form of injection.

У зубра, убитого на территории Беловежской пущи, отметились исхудание и обширные кожные изменения. В области грудной клетки, брюха и задних конечностей наблюдались облысения, а в их пределах и по соседству кожа была утолщена, складчата и покрыта струпьями. Причиной болезненым изменениям была инвазия накожных чесоточных клещей из вида Chorioptes bovis (Hering, 1845) очень высокой интенсивности. Обнаружение клещей Ch. bovis у зубра является первой записью вида на территории Беловежской пущи. Зубр является новым хозяином Ch. bovis.
