In the study, impact of three devices aggregated with farm tractors on forest soil was compared – FRANSGARD 6000 GS cable winch and two processors – NIAB 5-15 and HYPRO 450. The basic difference between the above mentioned machines consists in the fact that the cable winch skids debranched tree stems while processors skid the whole trees, including their tree-tops. The percentage of soil injured in late pine stand thinning reached, respectively: 1.2%, 2.2% and 5.5%. The analysis of significance of differences in Ug indicators characterising the damages induced has shown that only the indicator computed for HYPRO processor is significantly higher than the others. However, as the simulation performed has confirmed, appropriate thickening of skidding routes enables to achieve a comparable level of damages for all the machines examined. Taking into account the impact on forest soil, application of processors aggregated with farm tractors can be recommended for thinning stands.
This paper presents the results of studies of the content of copper in the 0-20 cm layer of farmland soils in Poland and the correlation between the content of this element in the soil and the content of the granulometric fractions < 0.02 and the < 0.002, organic matter and pHKCl. The Cu content determined in soils varies between 0.2 and 725.0 whilst the expected Cu content is in the range 3.1-13.6 mg kg-1. The geometrical and arithmetical mean values of the copper content in soils amount to 6.5 and 8.6 mg kg-1 respectively. Approximately 97% of the countrys agricultural soils have a natural Cu content (0o - unpolluted soils) whereas 3% have a slightly elevated content of Cu (Io). Soils with different degrees of Cu pollution (weakly polluted -IIo, medium heavily polluted - IIIo, heavily polluted - IVo, very heavily polluted - Vo) represent only 0.40% of farmlands area. Soils in industrialised regions contain higher quantities of copper and are polluted with Cu to a greater degree than are the rural soils nationally.
Разработан алгоритм, позволяющий моделировать природное температурное поле поверхностных слоев Земли для различных природно-климатических условий и грунтов различной температуропроводности. На примере условий Запорожского региона определена глубина годовых колебаний температуры грунта.
The article presents an overview of the results of a study concerning the zinc and lead content in urban soils of Kielce with regard to different land use. 61 topsoil samples were collected in the industrial areas (I), urban green areas (Z), urban allotment gardens (O), as well as parks and forests (P). The maximum values for zinc and lead were observed in the industrial zone, i.e. 181.3 mg kg-1 and 112.6 mg kg-1, respectively; whereas the average content in the soils of Kielce oscillates at the level of 134.2 mg kg-1 for zinc and 92.85 mg kg-1 for lead. Geochemical indices, such as the geoaccumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (CF) and accumulation index (AI) indicated that areas located in close proximity to the main roads of the city, especially in the city centre and the former industrial estate called Białogon, are characterised by the highest concentration of the analysed heavy metals. Generally, the enrichment of soils in zinc and lead decreases further from the city centre. In most cases, the content of the analysed heavy metals in surface layers of urban soils considerably exceeded values considered as geochemical background and valid legal norms of the Ordinance of the Minister of Environment on soil quality standards and land quality standards (Journal of Laws of 2002, No. 165, item 1359). The exceeded values of the analysed metals are caused mainly by deposition of contamination from car exhaust emissions and broadly defined industry.
This paper presents the results of an attempt to reproduce, with the aid of a numerical circulation model, the hydrological conditions observed in the coastal area of the southern Baltic in September 1989. A large fall in surface layer seawater temperature was recorded in September 1989 at two coastal stations in the vicinity of Kołobrzeg and Władysławowo. This upwelling-like phenomenon was assumed to be related to the specific anemobaric situation in September 1989, however typical of this phenomenon to occur along the Polish Baltic coast (Malicki & Miętus 1994). A three-dimensional (3-D) σ-coordinate baroclinic model of the Baltic Sea, with a horizontal resolution of ∼5 km and 24 sigma-levels in the vertical, was applied to investigate water circulation and thermohaline variability. Hindcast numerical simulation showed that the model provided a good reproduction of the temporal history of the surface seawater temperature and the duration of the upwelling-like fall, but that the model results were underestimated. The maxima of this large fall in the surface layer temperature at both coastal stations are closely related to the phase of change of the upwelling-favourable wind direction to the opposite one. The results of simulation runs showed details of upwelling development due to wind field fluctuations in time and differences in shaping the temperature and current patterns in conjunction with the variations in topography and coastline features in some areas along the Polish coast. Two different hydrodynamic regimes of water movements along the coast resulting from topographical features (the Słupsk Bank) can be distinguished. From the model simulation the specific conditions for the occurrence and development of upwelling at the eastern end of the Polish coast (in the vicinity of Władysławowo) can be deduced.
