The goal of this paper is to discuss why generalist understanding has emerged as a model of social work practice. In order to achieve this, the emergence of generalist approach, and fundamentals of both social work and generalist social work have been examined. Practitioners and theorists of social work as a part of society consciously or unconsciously may try to distort essential mission of social work for various reasons. The authors suggest that generalist social work is an answer to such an endeavor.
