This paper presents the macromorphological and micromorphological characteristics of wood barley recorded in the Wielkopolska Lowland. On the basis of the collection of preserved specimens, the micromorphological features were examined under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to assess their taxonomic value. The principal features include the size and shape of cork/silica cells, crown cells, prickles, macro-hairs and stomata as well as the morphology of long cells in vegetative and reproductive organs.
The Iymphatic vessels emanating from the oviductal infundibulum, ampulla and isthmus were examined in the pig paraovarian sac and broad ligament walls to determine their relations with paraovarian lymphatic plexus. To differentiate the oviductal, ovarian and uterine lymphatic pathways injections of three-coloured microfil were used. The precollector lymphatics in the paraovarian sac mesosalpinx created two networks running independently pathways towards the lymph nodes. A large multimesh network from the oviductal isthmus, especially in the late follicular and early luteal phase, together with uterine precollectors made the limphatic plexusus in subovarian areas. Both of these lymphatics networks did not posses direct connections for the lymph flow. The lymphatic system in the supraovarian sac was not evident scanty.
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of long-term (48 d), per os animal administration of low zearalenone (ZEA) doses (50% and 100% NOAEL values) on the dynamics of changes in the morphometric parameters of the reproductive organs in sexually-immature gilts. The experiment involved 12 clinically-healthy gilts aged 2 months with initial body weight of ± 40 kg and a determined immune status. The animals were randomly divided into two experimental groups (El, n=4; E2, n=4) and a control group (C, n=4). Group El was administered per os 20 µg of ZEA/kg b.w. for 48 d, group E2 received per os 40 µg of ZEA/kg b.w. for 48 d, and group C was administered per os placebo for 48 d. The mycotoxin was administered daily per os animal in gelatin capsules before morning feeding. The animals were slaughtered at the end of the experiment. No significant morphometric changes were noted in the reproductive system of the gilts, except for an increase in the number of medium-sized ovarian follicles in group El. This suggests that ZEA at low concentrations may cause hormonal effects (hyperoestrogenism) but it does not exhibit xenobiotic activity.
The intranodal lymph pathways of lymph nodes connected with reproductive organs were studied in 30 pigs, both histologically and by injecting colloidal carbon particles. These lymph nodes were single or composed independently of their localization: 1) in vascular subovarian plexus (VSP) and 2) in paraaortal areas. There were 7-11 single normal lymph nodes and 5-8 single hemal lymph nodes distributed in both mentioned regions. All studied animals possessed in the VSP area large composed lymph nodes with 5-7 valves connected to various reproductive organs and 2-3 composed lymph nodes in the paraaortal area. Afferent lymphatics (AF) entered the single nodes at the protrusion poles, whereas efferent lymphatics (EF) with blood vessels entered in the hilus. In the composed nodes all types of lymphatic and blood vessels were directly connected to the deep hilus on the dorsal side. The remaining reproductive organs in all examined pigs had a connection with either the central composed nodes and/or others composed or single node(s) from the paraaortal area.
The paper deals with phylogenetic relationships of recently described Montenegrospeum bogici Pešić et Glöer, 2012 from central Bosnia. The female reproductive system was found to bear two receptacula seminis. Mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I and nuclear 18S rRNA gene partial sequences were used for the maximum likelihood phylogenetic inference. Morphological and molecular data are congruent: Montenegrospeum does not belong to the Moitessieriidae, and is phylogenetically remote from Bythiospeum; it belongs to the Hydrobiidae, subfamily Sadlerianinae, and its sister taxon is Dalmatinella Radoman, 1973 (bootstrap support 87%).
Different segments of the reproductive tract of 100 adult, non-pregnant, female African giant rats (AGR) were carefully examined, weighed, and measured. The ovaries were observed to be small, pinkish, and kidney-shaped. The uterus of the AGR was found to be uterus duplex. The live weight of the AGR was 999.7 ± 16.86 g. The weight, length, and width of the ovary were 0.095 ± 0.003 g, 0.750 ± 0.01 cm, and 0.01± 0.02 cm, respectively. The length of the oviduct, uterus, and vagina/vestibule were 4.44 ± 0.06 cm, 4.877 ± 0.11 cm, and 4.345 ± 0.07 cm, respectively. The weight and length of the entire tubular organs were 3.171 ± 0.01 g and 13.559 ± 0.18 cm with corresponding range values of 1.61–7.10 g and 7.80–17.40 cm, respectively. (Folia Morphol 2010; 69, 4: 213–215)
The aim of this study was to determine the short-, mid- and long-term effects of cloprostenol (a synthetic analogue of prostoglandin F2α, PG) and equine chorionic gonadotropin (E) administration on reproductive organs (uterine tissue and ovaries) in female rats. Three different groups, PG, E, and control (C), were created, as well as six subgroups of the PG and E groups. After the treatment procedure, reproductive organs were removed surgically 7, 14, and 21 days after the last injection. Morphometric and histopathological changes in tissues were evaluated. It was shown that PG and E had a moderate proliferative effect on epithelial cells and endometrial glands, especially in the mid-term. It was also observed that, regardless of the time of application, some pathological changes can result from hormone administration.
