The research material consisted of 87 Suffolk ewes divided into control (1) and experimental (2) groups. Both groups were fed farm feeds according to DLG standards.Animals from the experimental group were given an addition of the nutritional pectin concentrate with an immunological effect (KO) produced on the basis of apple pectins. Dams were given approx. 10 g per animal per day of the preparation mixed with concentrate every 7 days during tupping, every 3 days during pregnancy and everyday during the rearing of lambs. Lambs were reared with their dams. From 14 days of age their diet was supplemented with the evaluated preparation mixed with oat meal and then with concentrate at the amount of 10% of a given feed. Reproduction results of 87 ewes including fertility, prolificacy, rearing of lambs and reproduction indices were evaluated. Based on the body weight of lambs at 2 days after birth and at the age of 1 month, 56 and 90 days, as well as on the daily body weight gains in the individual examined periods, the evaluation of the growth of the offspring being reared was performed. In the statistical analysis of the obtained results, Student’s t-test (addition of preparation) was applied. It was found that dams from both groups were characterised by similar and very low fertility (54.7–58.2%). The applied pectin preparation significantly (P≤0.01) affected the value of the prolificacy index of the examined sheep. In this respect, the ewes from experimental group were over 32 per cent better than the ewes from the control group. Similar tendency was observed for the rearing of lambs and the values of reproduction indices. The offspring of both groups of dams weighed at 2 days after birth had similar body weight. From 1 month of age a significant advantage of lambs from experimental group was observed both in respect of body weight and daily body weight gains. At the last weighing at 90 days of age, lambs given the KO preparation were significantly heavier (P≤0.01) than their age mates from group 1. In the whole experiment, lambs from group 2 were characterised by approx. 26 g higher body weight gains (P≤0.05) compared to lambs from group 1 and the values of the growth rate indices for animals in both groups were similar.
Effect of dietary arginine supplementation on body weight changes and productivity of sows. The objective of this study was to determine whether provision of additional arginine to pregnant and lactating sows could influence body weight changes in females during reproductive cycle as well as reproductive and rearing performance of the piglets. The study included 36 F1 crossbred sows (Polish Landrace ´Polish Large White), including 12 primiparous and 24 multiparous sows, which after insemination were randomly allocated to experimental group E (6 primiparous – P and 12 multiparous – M) and control group C (6 P and 12 M). Sows from both groups received complete diets, which were fed to meet requirements. Sows from group E were supplemented with amino acid (L-arginine 98%) at 0.3 kg/ton for pregnant sows (from 4 weeks after insemination) and at 0.5 kg/ton for lactating sows. C sows were not supplemented. Feeding group (C, E) had a significant effect on sow body weight at weaning (P ≤0.01), while lactation (P, M) had a significant effect on sow body weight at mating and weaning, and also on body weight change during the weaning-to-mating period (P ≤0.01). The number of piglets born to primiparous sows from group E vs C was higher by 1.3 piglets (11.11%) (P >0.05). 28-day-old weaned piglets, reared by primiparous sows, were significantly heavier than the progeny of multiparous sows (P ≤0.01), by 0.76 kg/animal (10.08%) in group C and by 0.97 kg/animal (12.63%) in group E. Piglets from group E vs C were heavier at weaning by 0.35 kg (4.22%) when born to primiparous sows, and by 0.14 kg (1.86%) when born to multiparous sows. No group ´lactation interaction has been shown for any of the parameters studied. It seems appropriate to supplement pregnant and nursing primiparous sows with dietary arginine.
The aim of this investigation was to determine how reproduction results, including broodiness intensity, are influenced by both the age of hen turkeys at light stimulation and the time from stimulation to laying the first egg. The experimental material consisted of 1269 hens from a maternal female strain (J-44), the age of which at the time of light stimulation was 30 (356 birds), 32 (400 birds) or 33 (513) birds weeks. The hens were divided into five groups according to the time of response to light stimulation: up to 19 days, 20-23 days, 24-27 days, 28-31 days and over 32 days. In the groups isolated this way, average values of estimated traits were calculated. The age of hens at light stimulation had no significant effect on reproduction results, however the oldest hens had a higher hatchability from set eggs (3.2%). The hens which responded sooner to light stimulation, were characterized by a higher egg production (the difference between extreme groups, irrespective of the age at which the stimulation was performed, amounted to 18.5 eggs) and hatchability (6.1%). No significant effect of the investigated factors on hen broodiness has been found. The rate of hens' response to light stimulation can be used for early selection to improve reproductive traits.
Badaniami objęto trzy grupy genetyczne indyków - w typie ciężkim Hybrid Large White (HLW) i Big-6 oraz średniociężkim indyki WAMA-3. W każdej grupie odchowywano 200 lamie i 50 samców. Do reprodukcji wybrano losowo z każdej grupy po 105 samic i 20 samców. Okres rozpłodu trwał 20 tygodni. Po zakończonym okresie wychowu (30 tyg.) nieco cięższe (o 0.56 kg) były indyczki HLW (12.16 kg) od BIG-6 (11.60 kg). Samce w tych grupach osiągnęły jednakową masę ciała (25.85 kg). Indyki średniociężkie WAMA-3 ważyły w tym wieku mniej - samice 9.15 kg, a samce - 21.84 kg. Indyki WAMA-3 niezależnie od płci spożywały w okresie wychowu najmniej paszy. Największe spożycie paszy odnotowano u samców (106.91 kg) i samic (53.08 kg) w grupie indyków BIG-6. Indyczki BIG-6 i WAMA-3 osiągnęły dojrzałość rozpłodową w 224 dniu życia, a HLW w 229. dniu. Średnie zapłodnienie jaj wynosiło u indyczek HLW - 89.6%, BIG-6 - 88.6% i WAMA - 91.8%. Szczyt nieśności w analizowanych stadach osiągnęły ptaki w 3.-4. tyg. produkcji. W ciągu 140 dni nieśności uzyskano od nioski stanu początkowego od 60.6 szt. jaj (HLW) do 73.8 szt. (BIG-6). Średnia liczba piskląt wylęgłych od jednej nioski, to 41.3 szt. w grupie WAMA-3, 39.2 szt. w grupie BIG-6 i 33.3 szt. w grupie HLW. Najwyższe zużycie paszy na produkcję 1 pisklęcia stwierdzono u indyków HLW (1607 g), a najniższe u WAMA-3 (1164 g).
