Thermocyclops kawamurai Kikuchi, 1940, a poorly-known cyclopoid from northern China is redescribed. Data on variability are given. Proposed synonymy of T. kawamurai Kikuchi, 1940 and Thermocyclops orientalis Dussart et Fernando, 1985 (Defaye et al. 1988) is rejected.
Endonura cretensis (Ellis, 1976) is redescribed, disscused and illustrated on the basis of the holotype and new specimens. The species is recorded from Israel for the first time. Within the genus it is strongly isolated and the most similar to E. urotuberculata Pomorski et Skarżyński, 2000 from Bulgaria.
Paragordius is a genus of Gordiida with a worldwide distribution, but with a scarce specific diversity. Sixteen species of the genus Paragordius have been described so far. In many cases, as with the other genera of Gordiida, the original descriptions of the species are insufficient due to the limitations of the techniques employed. In this work the holotypes of P. minusculus and P. esavianus are redescribed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a new species of Paragordius is described, the distribution for P. esavianus and P. varius is enlarged and a new host record of P. esavianus is presented.
The little known reduviine species, Tiarodes elegatis Stål, 1863, is redescribed based on the material from Sri Lanka. The characters of male genitalia are reported for the first time. The dorsal habitus, head, male genitalia and other diagnostic morphological features are illustrated.
This study includes a redescription of Anoplocephaloides iudicata (Sawada et Papasarathorn, 1966) comb. nov. (Cestoda, Anoplocephalidae) based on museum material from the South-East Asian Tapirus indicus, comparison with Flabelloskrjabinia tapirus (Chin, 1938) from the South American Tapirus terrestris, as well as comments on the genus Flabelloskrjabinia Spasskii, 1951. The present analysis suggests that A. iudicata and F. tapirus are independent species parasitizing T. indicus and T. terrestris, respectively, distinguished primarily by the size and morphology of the scolex and distribution of testes. However, new material from T. terrestris is needed for the evaluation of the generic status of anoplocephalid cestodes from tapirs.
Aulonothroscus laticollis (Rybiński, 1897) is redescribed and illustrated based on newly collected material in the Białowieża Primeval Forest, Poland. Its female is described for the first time.
The morphological characters of Glossopelta tridens Maa et Lin, 1956 are redescribed. Illustrations of the adult, head, and other relevant structures are provided to help facilitate recognition of this sexually dimorphic and little-known species.
Sticholotidini (Coleóptera: Coccinellidae) from Western Ghats, a designated biodiversity hotspot in India, are poorly known. Fourteen species of Sticholotidini from southern Indian plantations, Western Ghats, are treated here. Most of these species are endemic to Western Ghats and are not commonly seen in collections and there is little information on their habitat / biology. Diagnostic information on these species is given here with illustrations of male genitalia wherever possible to facilitate their identification. Sticholotis húmida sp. nov. is described and illustrated. Lectotypes are designated for Orcus (?) ferrugineus Gorham (1894), Clanis binotata Gorham (1894), Sticholotis cribellata Sicard (1910), Sticholotis obscurocincta Sicard (1911), Sticholotis obscurella Weise (1908), Sticholotis nilgiriensis Weise (1908), and Sticholotis tredecimmaculata Weise (1908). Synonychimorpha immaculata Poorani (2003) is reduced to a new junior synonym of S. chittagongi (Vazirani, 1983) (new synonym). A checklist of Sticholotidini known from the Western Ghats is given.
Balaustium murorum (Hermann, 1804) is redescribed. Characteristics of active postlarval forms and first characteristics of larvae, supplemented with data on biology of the species, are provided. Female of B. murorum, from which larvae were obtained by experimental rearing, has been designated as neotype. Key characters, hitherto used by different authors in order to distinguish between members of Balaustium are discussed. Seventeen species known from larvae are presently assigned to Balaustium, at the total number of 41 members of the genus known worldwide.
