The two-year field experiments (2008–2009) were carried out to determine the efficacy of propizochlor (Proponit 720 EC) applied alone and tank-mixtures of propizachlor with other herbicides to weed control and selectivity in maize. Treatments were applied pre-emergence and early post-emergence at the 1–2 leaf stage of maize. Maize plants showed good tolerance to all pre-emergence herbicide treatments. Post-emergence treatments with propizachlor applied alone and in mixture with other herbicides caused phytotoxic symptoms on maize plants. The results showed that biological efficacy of propizochlor mixtures with different herbicides applied at lower doses was satisfactory against grass and broadleaf weeds in maize. In general, propizochlor mixture provided higher control of weeds (e.g. Chenopodim album, Centaurea cyanus, Galium aparine, Stellaria media, Viola arvensis, Echinochloa cruss-galii, Polygonum sp.) than propizochlor used alone. Using some combinations of pre- and post-emergence herbicide mixtures at lower doses can be a good strategy for decreasing cost of treatments and provide a satisfactory effect of weed control in maize.
The aim of the field experiments was to evaluate the effect of herbicide Proponit 720 EC used commercially (which content in 1 l - 720 g of propisochlor) for grass- and dicotyledonous weed control in winter wheat, winter barley, sugar beet, pea, potato and maize. The field trials were conducted over period 1995- 1998 in experimental stations, which belong to the Institute of Plant Protection. Proponit 720 EC effectively controls Apera spica-venti and Echinochloa crus-galli. In winter cereals dicotyledonous weed control was satisfactory but at other tested crops better weed control was obtained while Proponit 720 EC application with other herbicide. The yield of crops was increased after Proponit 720 application. Proponit 720 EC was not enough safe for sugar beet but was selective for other tested crops.
A field experiment was conducted in 2007–2009 at the Brody and Przybroda – Experimental Station of Poznań University of Life Sciences. The aim of this study was to compare weed control efficacy in winter oilseed rape using Proponit 720 herbicide EC at different doses and as a mixture with herbicide Command 480 EC. Conducted investigations showed very high efficacy of Proponit 720 EC applied in the dose of 3.0 l/ha in controlling Capsella bursa-pastoris, Veronica arvensis, Stellaria media, Matricaria inodora, Papaver rhoeas, Thlaspi arvense, Galium aparine, Veronica hederifolia and Lamium amplexicaule. Tank-mix of Proponit 720 EC and Command 480 EC herbicide in the dose of 2.0 l/ha + 0.2 l/ha showed very good weed control of Viola arvensis, G. aparine, L. amplexicaule, T. arvense, Veronica arvensis and V. hederifolia. There was no significant influence of herbicide treatments on the number of plants per m2, weight of 1 000 seeds, number of seeds per pod and yield of winter oilseed rape.
