The aim of the research was to identify pro-ecological activities of Slovak hotels in the opinion of their employees and consumers. Two questionnaires were created, one was sent to 400 hotels and the other one to 105 respondents. The most common pro-ecological activities introduced by hotels were: energy saving bulbs, energy efficient appliances, waste separation and recycling, and light motion sensors. In terms of packaging of the hotel cosmetics, half of the hotels used disposable mini-packs, and the other half dispensers for soap and shampoo. Over half of hotels did not offer meals prepared from organic foods in their hotel restaurant. Only two hotels rewarded their clients who care for the environment. One hotel offered discounts on accommodation and the second one offered a higher number of points on the loyalty card. 42.1% hotels had plans related to environmental protection (e.g. expand waste sorting, recycle PET bottles, and increase the share of segregated waste).
Subject and purpose of work: The aim of the study is to make a characteristic and evaluation of the conditions of environmental activities of companies representing the bioeconomy sector located in environmentally valuable areas of Lublin Voivodeship. The study also identifies key factors and barriers to eco-activity from the perspective of the surveyed companies. Materials and methods: To achieve the goal a review of literature and surveys were conducted in 2013 in 30 communes of the Lublin province (Poland), characterized by the highest level of the indicator of ecological value. The study used the method of diagnostic survey with a questionnaire interview. Results: Environment-friendly activities undertaken in the studied companies were conditioned largely by economic factors and the need to adapt the organization to meet the standards of environmental protection. Among the problems concerning determinants of eco-friendly activity entrepreneurs pointed high cost of adapting the organization to the increasingly stringent environmental legislation and organizational difficulties to adapt to these regulations. Conclusions: Bioeconomy sector companies operating in environmentally valuable areas are characterized by mutual harmonious relationship with the local natural environment. In the study group, there is a need to promote awareness of the possibility of external support for environmental activities.
Dairy firms generate a considerable amount of pollution in course of production, negatively influencing the state of natural environment. According to the EU ecological policy, all economic sectors must comply with the principle of sustainable development, which makes environmental targets equal to the economic ones. Pro-ecological activities of dairy firms are to ensure, first of all, implementing the assumptions of ecological policy, however, they can also become a factor favourably influencing their competitive position.
