This paper deals with the end-users’ attitudes towards print and digital information and preferences to use print or digital media. Results of pilot questionnaire survey showed that while digital media are preferred to be used for writing, printed media are still favoured for reading. Furthermore, users are rather traditional in storing written information in a printed form. The statistical tests carried out confirmed hypothesis that there are differences in preferences between defined groups of respondents categorised by gender, age and level of education.
The article discusses the current challenges of world agricultural policy in the context of globalisation of economy. First there is a presentation of the preferences in agricultural production treatment coming from the natural and economic premises. Afterwards basic measures of food policy are described with special consideration of tax-payers money transfer to the farmers. Then one can find most important determinants of restructuring policy instruments in the national and world scale of intervention. Finally we could find some possible solutions in future deliberations regarding inevitable processes and public choice of the societies. Main thesis of the article states that there is a need of liberalisation and deregulation in agricultural policy to meet free-market rules and increase the efficiency of agri-enterprises.
This paper reports the results of a supplementary study to research conducted previously on the stimulating effect of defined spectral ranges of light on the growth rate of the European eel Anguilla anguilla L. The aim was to study the eel's potential selectivity and behavioral preference for defined light band wavelengths which are recognized as optimal colors. Eel specimens from a wild population were acclimatized in a laboratory for six months under natural daylight conditions. Five randomly selected specimens were then held in an aquarium divided into four compartments. Each compartment was irradiated for 7 h daily with tungsten bulb light that was transmitted through a glass filter of a specific transmission band (white, red, violet and green). The fish could enter any of the compartments and stay in them at will. The intensity of irradiance measured at the central point of each compartment was maintained at a standard level. During the 105-day experiment, 61 records of fish distribution in the particular compartments were obtained. Individual preferences for definite colors were estimated statistically. The eels gathered twice as frequently in the compartments irradiated with violet and green light than in those irradiated with white or red. The tendency for them to congregate in groups was also significantly higher in violet and green light than in white or red (P < 0.001). The lighting preferences are considered to be optimal for the biology of this species.
The results of questionnaire study determining consumer preferences when purchasing wooden products or their substitutes made of materials other than wood were presented. Functional qualities of products were evaluated. Consumer preferences were determined within 5 groups of products: 1) woodwork, floor and mural materials; 2) buildings and construction materials; 3) furniture; 4) paper and packaging; 5) firewood. Wood despite its rather low fire- resistance and poor resistance to weather conditions, however due to significant functional features constitutes a valuable, universal and eagerly used material.
The research embraced 9339 people aged 13-75, living in the 6 macro-regions of Poland. The preferences and the consumption frequency for the chosen products and their groups and the choice importance of factors influencing the food choice were evaluated. On the basis of the factor analysis (the main components method) and the cluster analysis (the k-means method) the characteristic profiles describing the food choice models were selected. The existence of 6 profiles describing people dietary behaviours were revealed. Food choice was influenced to a larger extent by sensory and functional factors rather than by socio-cultural, concerning health factors or price. The health-concerning factors differentiated studied population, nevertheless, they had a moderate meaning for the food choice.
