With the development of knowledge about food and nutrition, there is the possibility of developing increasingly sophisticated pyramids/healthy eating plates, conducive to the maintenance of health. The study compares the latest (2016) nutritional recommendations of American and Polish experts on the consumption of vegetables, fruits and juices. Also attention has been paid to the position of WHO relating to the recommendations in the feeding of young children. The authors fully share the view of experts that fruits and vegetables as products with a high nutrients density and rich in health promoting compounds, should constitute a basic part of a balanced diet. Controversy arouse, however, concerning the proportion in various recommendations of the consumption of fruit and vegetables and the recommendations for fruit juices. Undoubtedly, proper eating habits should be formed from an early age, taking into account the prevention of diet-related diseases. To secure success, the balanced diet that is rich in the ingredients necessary for the normal functioning of the human body, adjusted to the gender and age, must be taken into account.
