The bases of the state medicine policy, formed in preceding years, connected with the regulation of the pharmaceutical market, were introduced together with a new Medicine, Foods for Special Purposes and Medical Products Reimbursement Act as of 1st January 2012. The main purpose of the said act was a multi-structured regulation of the pharmaceutical market. The purpose of introducing the new act was an improvement of the situation of the Polish pharmacy industry as well as the elimination of many anomalous phenomena taking place in recent years. Many groups of interest have already voiced their reservations in the period of drafting the new act. Many things were not amended. They are, however, important enough to be considered, as they may have significant results in the future, especially concerning the economic situation of pharmacies.
Tandem mass spectrometry is an extremly useful tool for high sensitive sequence identification of peptides. In the case of cyclic peptides fragmentation can easily be performed for sequence analysis. However, analysis is usually tedious due to the lack of a defined beginning and end of the sequence. Since cyclic peptides are a highly interesting class of compounds especially for the pharmaceutical industry, ways have to be found to identify their structures. In this work we demonstrate how software and dedicated analytical strategies can be used for detailed analysis of these substances.

Determinants of growing herbs in Polish agriculture

58%
The paper describes basic determinants of the medical plant cultivation in Polish agriculture. The author discussed economic background of the introduction of these plants indicating the role of pharmaceutical industry in herb usage. Then, there is a presentation of results of the survey study carried out among farmers from the Wielkopolska region. Approximately 10% of the farms cultivate medicinal plants but more than 50% declare some interest in this kind of production, what indicates a big potential. Farmers think that herbs are economically attractive crops if the sale is guaranteed and the price is satisfactory. The demand for medicinal plants is developing and expanding for e.g. dietary supplements and other health-promoting products. Therefore, it can be concluded that cultivation of medicinal plants is the prospective direction of agricultural production and an important element of additional income of Polish farmers.
Mulberry is grown worldwide. Its leaves are used to feed the silkworms which in turn produce silk fiber. Sericulture is mostly practiced in China, India and Japan. In the rest of the world, mulberry is generally used as forage in animal production, or for other purposes. Besides using the leaves, mulberry bears sweet fruit. The full-bodied flavor of this fruit is a good balance of sweetness and tartness with nutrient elements of vital importance for human metabolism. If these fruits are industrially exploited for various commercially valuable products, mulberry can become an important crop throughout the world. This paper presents a visualization of mulberry and the industrial exploitation of mulberry fruits for the global scenario. Mulberry can be used for making jam, jelly, pulp, fruit drink, fruit sauce, cake, fruit tea, fruit powder, fruit wine, food colorant, diabetes control agent and as ruminant livestock feed. It can also be used in the pharmaceutical industry. It opens a new vista for industrial exploitation of mulberry fruits worldwide. Such a use of the mulberry has been overlooked for the sake of using only mulberry leaf for the sericulture industry.
