As a result of over 50 years of investigations 1153 species of mining insects are known from Poland. 34 species represent the order Hymenoptera, 87 Coleoptera, 478 Diptera and 554 Lepidoptera. In trophic aspect they are connected with hosts from 101 plant families.
Forty-six species of leaf-mining butterflies (Gracillariidae) were recorded in the Roztocze Środkowe (SE Poland) on the basis of materials collected there from 1987 to 1990. The richest was the fauna in the xerothermic shrubs.
