The Slovak sectoral dynamic partial equilibrium econometric model based on EU GOLD model was used for the analysis of the development of the Slovak oilseed markets after EU accession. Oilseed production increased during the transition especially due to growth of rapeseed and sunflower production. Simulation results for rapeseed, sunflower and soybean are provided in this article. Two scenarios are analysed: non-accession baseline and accession with adoption of single area payment scheme. EU accession is expected to increase oilseed prices, which will result in decline of consumption. Direct payments will have limited impact on oilseed production. Trade balance for rapeseed and sunflower will improve.
Anther culture is currently the most successful method for production of doubled haploid lines in flax. Recently, ovary culture was also described as a good source of doubled haploids. In this contribution we investigated the incorporation of enzyme polymorphism of acid phosphatase and peroxidase as molecular markers for the gametic origin of flax plants derived from anther and ovary cultures.
While it is true that heavy metals accumulate in soil easily, their removal is difficult. The organic fraction of municipal solid waste can be recycled into compost, although frequent application of biowaste may lead to the accumulation of heavy metals in soil. There is no deep-rooted tradition in Lithuania to make and use various biowaste composts, including the ones produced from municipal waste. The objective of this study has been to compare the accumulation of heavy metals in different parts of oilseed pumpkin fruit depending on the chemical composition of the compost the pumpkin plants had been supplied. The content of heavy metals (HM) was determined in the soil before the plant-growing experiment, and in biowaste composts of different origin. Green waste (GW) and municipal solid waste (MSW) composts were applied to soil as fertiliser. Heavy metal concentrations in the skin, flesh and seeds of the analysed pumpkin fruits did not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations established by the EU norms. Seeds of the investigated pumpkin cultivar Olivia are more sensitive to the effect of heavy metal accumulation than the other morphological fruit parts (skin and flesh). The highest amounts of the investigated heavy metals, except Cr, were determined in the seeds, while the lowest ones, except Cu, in the flesh of oilseed pumpkin fruits. The amount of heavy metals in pumpkin biomass was not directly related to their concentrations in the soil, which proves the fact that the transfer of heavy metals from soil to plant is determined primarily by metal bioavailability and by a plant species.
There’s a strong link between the production of biofuels and energy crops. The first of these activities may contribute to the appearance of new products in agriculture, besides giving a boost to activities such as provision of services and aiding in the diversification of economic activities in rural areas. Farmers’ final decision to include energy crops into or exclude them from their productive alternatives depends on various factors of a different nature (political, legal, technical, economic or socio-cultural). This paper analyzes the socio-economic aspects related to the introduction of oil-seeds (sunflower and rape seed) as energy crops in one of the most important agricultural regions in Spain (Castile and Leon). Thus, using RRA (Rural Rapid Appraisal) and the Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA), the study provides an evaluation of the main economic accounts of these crops and an idea of their profitability, impact on the level of employment and environmental consequences.
The article deals with competitiveness (comparative advantages) of Slovak and Polish agricultural trade. The analysis consists of evaluation of RCA, RCA I. and RCA II. indices for selected countries and commodities or commodity groups. The gained results give the possibility to estimate the significance of selected indices and to compare them. The evaluation of competitiveness by single commodities or commodity groups in each country allows finding the new ways for success on the world market of agricultural products.
