Infra-red lamps (250 W) (L) and floor heated panels (160—180 W) (P) installed within 24 open-type nests for suckling piglets were compared. I was found higher air temperature about the value of 0.62°C, radiative temperature higher about 10.85°C and 50 times lower heat outflow in L type then in panel heated nests (P). The skin temperature measured at pig backs was higher about 1.48°C (p ≤ 0.01) and rectal temperature higher about 0.17°C (p ≤ 0.05) within pigs from infra-red geated (L) nests. Only a temperature of belly of pigs was higher about the value of 0.58°C (p ≤ 0.05) in P nests. Mortality of piglets during 7 week period of rearing was 15.06% in L nests and 24.83% in floor heated pens (P) whereas daily weight gains were similar in the both compared nests. Data obtained in the study indicate a better efficacy of infra-red then floor heated penels application. Moreover, application of the reflective screens as a three side walls closing the nests additionally elevates a thermal comfort of these nests.
