Development of urban conurbations in Silesia has lead to diminishing the rural areas treated as natural recreational areas. However, Mikołów-Mokre locality located in the centre of the Upper Silesian conurbation has preserved its natural values. There is an actual chance for creating the Silesian Botanical Garden of an area of ca 130 hectares. Its geographical position is unique in Europe due to the convenient access from all Silesian cities and outstanding natural values. The Polish Academy of Sciences, Silesian University, the municipality of Mikołów, Silesian metropolitan curia, the Agency for State Treasure Agricultural Property and the National Forests participate in the establishment of the botanical garden.
