Two thirds of mineral resources in Poland are extracted by strip mining. Practically each type of mining activity has adverse effects to the environment. However, these effects may be reduced, their harmful impacts limited. Mining heaps and dumping sites contain material that can be used in road construction and for production of construction materials. Reclaimed heaps and depressions filled with water can be used as recreational facilities.
