The present study determines the relation between the energy necessary for breaking carrot root and its physical status determined by means of such parameters as moisture content, water potential, and experimental time. The roots were hit by means of Charpy‘s hammer with a speed of 2.12 m/s. A constant energy of hitting of 0.263 J was applied. Water potential was determined by means of the “Wescor” method. A constant relation between the energy absorbed during hitting and water potential (r = 0.81) was observed. The relation can be used as an index of root resistance to impact loading.
