Aerobiological measurements were made by the volumetric method (VPPS Lanzoni and Burkard instruments). Concentrations of microscopic fungi were measured from April 16th to July 2nd, 2013, in two rooms of the Chair of Botany and Natural Environment Protection, Faculty of Biology, Szczecin University. The study was undertaken to perform mycological analysis of the air in selected rooms. Mycological contamination of the air in the surveyed areas was not diverse in terms of species composition. Nearly three times higher concentrations of fungal spores were recorded in the seminar room. The most abundant were spores of fungi from the genus Cladosporium. The concentration of fungal spores of Cladosporium, Botrytis and Aspergillus/Penicillium exceeds the limits.
This paper reviews the results of an extensive monitoring study, spanning 20-years of observation from three medical centres in Olsztyn on the dynamics and species diversity of fungi most frequently colonizing the respiratory and digestive systems of humans. The experimental materials were swabs and specimens from the gastrointestinal tract, swabs from the oral cavity and pharynx, as well as sputum and bronchial fluid from the respiratory system. The biological material was subjected to routine mycological diagnostics, taxonomic determination and identification. In total, 41 species of yeast and yeast-like fungi were isolated, including 34 from the respiratory and 25 from the digestive system. In the last decade, a significant increase has been noticed in the counts of fungi, especially the gastrointestinal tract, reported from people. As many as 18 species were isolated from both systems – they were predominated by fungi of the genus Candida and their perfect forms. Worthy of notice are also frequent isolations of yeast (Saccharomyces spp.) and detection of an endemic species, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, in the respiratory system, and of the sexual stages of Rhodosporidium diobovatum and Rhodosporidium kratochvilovae from the gastrointestinal tract.
Mycological analyses were carried out on air samples collected with the sedimentation and impactor methods. Fungi were assayed in atmospheric air sampled in the city centre of Olsztyn and in the forest at Lake Kortowskie. The experiment aimed at evaluating the contamination of atmospheric air with fungal microflora in the city centre of Olsztyn (3 stations) and in the forest at Lake Kortowskie (one station), collected with the sedimentation and impactor methods. Differentiated population numbers of fungi, reported in the atmospheric air of the city of Olsztyn, appeared to depend, to a great extent, on meteorological conditions.
Studies were conducted on a field of soybean monoculture at Czesławice near Nałęczów in the years 2002–2004. The object of the studies were soybean plants ‘Polan’ cv. and chitosan. A water solution of chitosan micro-gel at the concentration of 0.1% was used for studies. The studies tested the effect of this compound on the inhibition of soybean diseases caused by soil-borne pathogenic fungi. The solution of chitosan was used a few times, i.e. for seed dressing, seedling spraying, plant spraying at anthesis and in mixed combinations. During the experiment field observations were conducted in particular developmental stages when the number and healthiness of plants were established. Infected plants were submitted to mycological analysis. Results from the field observations and mycological analyses showed that chitosan used in a mixed combination (for seed dressing + seedling spraying + plant spraying at anthesis) was the most effective in protecting soybean from the infection of soil-borne pathogenic fungi. In those combinations the best density of soybean seedlings and plants at anthesis was obtained. The mycological analysis of infected parts of soybean seedlings and plants at anthesis showed that chitosan proved effective in inhibiting the infection of soybean plants from fungi from the genera of Fusarium, Pythium, Phomopsis and Botrytis cinerea, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Rhizoctonia solani.

Grzyby zagrazajace Acidanthera bicolor Hochst.

80%
In the years 2000–2002 a mycological analysis was made of the corms of Acidanthera bicolor Hochst. meant for setting up experiments, and the roots, corms and leaves of plants at anthesis. The mycological analysis of corms before planting showed that they were infected by Al-ternaria alternata, Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium spp. and Penicilliumspp. In the period of vegetation the roots and corms were mainly infected by F. oxysporum, F. culmorum, F. solani and B. cinerea. On the other hand, the leaves of the studied plant were mostly infected by A. alternata and B. cinerea.
The presented study concerned mycological analysis of buildings in Łódź and evaluation of the role between filamentous fungi contaminated flats and inhabitants health (allergic airway diseases). 49 inhabitants of 20 flats with signs of moulds contamination were examined. Air samples were collected in houses and outdoors. In all inhabitants skin prick tests (SPT) to common allergens and to standardized particular fungal extracts were performed. Moreover, total and serum specific IgE to moulds, rest spirometry were measured in all subjects. Level of moulds contamination in the air of flats was high and in 75% cases exceed accepted limits. The most frequent species isolated from examined rooms were: Pénicillium, Cladosporium, Aspergillus, Acremoniu and Alternaria. The most frequent symptoms reported by examined subjects were rhinitis (N = 29, 59.2%), conjunctivitis (N = 29, 59.2%), chronic cough (N = 24, 49%), dyspnea (N= 15, 30.6%) and skin symptoms (N = 24,49%). Elevated IgE level was found in 12 subjects (24.5%) and in three patients (6.1%) mould specific serum IgE were detected. Nineteen out of all subjects (38.8%) had positive SPT to common allergens (house dust mites, grass and tree pollens). Eight out of these patients (16.3% of the group) were sensitized to moulds (Candida albicans, Alternaria alternata, Botrytis cinerea, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Helminthosporium halodes, Aspergillus). In all cases sensitisation to moulds was accompanied by allergy to other common allergens. No isolated hypersensitivity to moulds was found. Although the frequency of self-reported symptoms was high, the prevalence of atopy and allergic diseases seems to be similar to that found in general population, but that statement must be confirmed by comparison of the control group.
In five monitored farms, stem base rot symptoms and carnation wilting were observed on 10–35% of plants and Rhizoctonia solani was the most frequently isolated species from diseased tissues. Additionally Fusarium avenaceum and Botrytis cinerea were only rarely noticed in the diseased stem parts. Isolates from carnation and eustoma caused stem and leaf blade rot of carnation but tissues were colonized significantly faster by a culture from a host plant. Different reaction of three carnation cultivars was observed on R. solani inoculation. The optimal species growth was observed at 30°C and it was also the most favorable temperature for colonization of carnation stem parts. In the greenhouse trial isolate of R. solani obtained from carnation crops caused stem base rot already after 2-week-growth on 1 per 5 plant in each replication and within the next 2 weeks 4 per 5 of plants died.
The occurrence and harmfulness of fungi towards Pastinaca sativa L. parsnip of White Gem cultivar were determined in 2005–2007. The mycological analysis of schizocarps with spots and without spots, seedlings and plants at the time of harvest was conducted every year. The fungi were identified on the basis of etiological symptoms visible on the infected parts of plants and on the basis of the results of mycological analysis. Parsnip schizocarps were colonized by various fungi species. Larger frequency of occurrence and biodiversity of fungi species on plants at the time of the harvest was found as compared to the seedlings. The fungus Itersonilia pastinacae, recognized as a cause of black cancer of parsnip in the regions where this plant is cultivated, was isolated for the first time in Poland. Alternaria alternata, A. raphani, Fusarium oxysporum, F. equiseti, F. solani and Stemphylium botryosum belonged to the species of fungi frequently isolated from various parts of this plant.
The maltose and mineral media for isolation of Gaeumannomyces graminis from roots were assessed. The differences in numbers of obtained isolates were found depending on the medium used and sampling date. Easier identification of pathogen was possible employing maltose medium. The fungi from genus Fusarium occurring on winter wheat leaf sheaths were identified by mycological analysis and PCR, while the fungus Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides was detected by PCR and ELISA methods. PCR and ELISA methods enabled to detect pathogens also in periods before the disease symptoms on plants occurred.
