Accumulation of heavy metals in the soil leads to the disturbance of the ecological systems homeostasis. In the food chain, from soil to plant to animal/man, soil is the main link. That is why a change in the chemical composition of soil caused by excessive concentrations of heavy metals is especially disadvantageous. Up to now, protection against accumulation of heavy metals in soils and plants has been passive: determining heavy metal content in soil, plants and certain human and animal organs; and prevention based on recommendations areas. Studies carried out at Warsaw Advanced School of Farming on stopping the spread of heavy metals resulted in inventing an effective method for removing heavy metals from soils permanently. This method employs BAG type briquettes placed in the soil. The substances contained in the briquettes have an unusual ability to absorb heavy metals, higher than soil humus does.
