Poland is one of the biggest producer and exporter of frozen fruit and vegetables in the EU. The balance of Polish foreign trade of frozen fruit and vegetables is constantly positive. In the season 2017/18 the most important products in the export were frozen strawberries, raspberries, cauliflowers, broccoli, carrots and frozen mixed vegetables. The import was dominated by frozen berries, raspberries, strawberries and frozen vegetables from other climatic zones.
The article presents the situation in particular segments of the horticultural market (as fruit and vegetable harvest, fruit and vegetable preserves production, foreign trade in horticultural products and their consumption) in the 2017/18 season in comparison to the previous season. The low fruit hanest in 2017 have caused a decrease in the production, export and consumption of fruit and their preserves and an increase in prices in all nexus of the marketing chain. Keeping the harvest at a high level has determined the relatively small changes in the volume of processed products and the export of vegetable products. However, as a result of a drop in the vegetables supply, which is a consequence of relatively large losses during harvest and storage, also the average purchase and retail prices of vegetables are higher than in the 2016/17 season.
