Locating monasteries in river valleys with a considerable tributary system is regarded to be one of the rules for establishing Cistercian foundations: Bernardus valles, colles Benedictus amabat, Franciscus vicos, magnas Dominicus urbes. A river valley provided opportunity for spatial development and land cultivation on fertile ground, something that Cistercian monks specialized in. In their efforts to raise effectiveness of their production, they did not underestimate the importance of water, not only by developing their fishing ponds, but also making water the main driving force for water mills and fulling mills, thereby promoting modern rural ‘food’ industry such as distilleries, breweries and open-pan salt production. In today’s post-cistercian landscape, in spite of many centuries of economic landscape exploitation, we can still discover properly functioning natural systems and traces of comprehensively developed water systems. Using the solutions utilized in monasteries all around Europe, the Order managed to enrich and shape landscape in a very considerable and unique way, not only on economic and social, but ecological level, too.

Oprócz jednej z najważniejszej cechy roślin energetycznych – dużych przyrostów biomasy, rośliny te dają również możliwości zastosowania ich w kształtowaniu krajobrazu i ogrodnictwie. Niektóre gatunki roślin energetycznych stanowią szczególnie cenny element krajobrazu, ponieważ łączą walory ozdobne z użytkowymi. Podstawowe walory ozdobne roślin energetycznych to duża ilość zielonej masy, a w niektórych przypadkach obfite kwitnienie. W niniejszym artykule zaproponowano projekt kolekcji dydaktycznej złożonej z roślin energetycznych, której celem będzie prezentacja różnych gatunków roślin uprawianych z przeznaczeniem na produkcję biopaliw, energii elektrycznej oraz energii cieplnej.

The development of each town brings about the necessity to change the way of the иве of surrounding areas and the town centre area, the structure of which becomes burdensome and badlyfitting. Every now and again in the development of every town it becomes necessary to subdue this difficulty through an application of various actions setting in order and adjusting the way of area utilization to the function currently indispensable from the view­point of proper organization and function of a town. Such action sare usually referred to as land readjustment or land redevelopment. They include a set of rural land development steps, which may be successfully used in suburban areas (in transitional zone) having still some traits of agricultural nature.
