The current act on protection of nature ignores basic directions of changes in Poland: development of local governments and market economy based on private ownership. This leads to an increasing number of disputes between local governments, economic entities and authorities involved in protection of nature. A complex amendment of the act is under preparation and efforts should be taken to make necessary adjustments in terms of social issues. The author explores these sections of the act which require changes.
