The objective of this study has been to determine vitamin C content in tubers of edible potato following an application of systemic insecticides to control the Colorado potato beetle. A field experiment was conducted on soil of a good rye complex in 2004-06. The experiment was designed as randomized sub-blocks with three replications. Experimental factors included three cultivars of potato Wiking, Mors, Żagiel - and six Colorado potato beetle control treatments using the following insecticides: Actara 25 WG (thiametoksam) at the rate of 0.08 kg/ha, Regent 200 SC (fipronil) at the rate of 0.1 dmVha, Calypso 480 SC (thiacloprid) at three rates (0.05, 0.075, 0.1 dm³/ha), and a control treatment without chcmical protection. The content of vitamin C was dependant on cultivar, insecticide treatment, and environmental conditions with each year. The insecticides applied significantly increased vitamin C content (amounted to 1.7 mg/kg) compared with the tubers harvested from the control treatment where no chemical protection was applied. Tubers of Mors cultivar had the highest vitamin C content, and Wiking cultivar lowest.
Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) suffers from the attack of various pests throughout its different stages of the crop growth. Different insecticides are used to control these pest infestations. The application of these insecticides on brinjal plants may have an effect on their quality and nutritional parameters of fruit samples. In the present study effect of three different insecticides viz. Triazophos 40% E.C. Carbaryl 50% W.D.P, Cypermethrin 10% E.C. and Azadiractin 10,000 ppm formulation belonging to different groups namely organophosphate, carbamate, synthetic pyrethroids and botanical insecticide on brinjal fruit quality, nutritional parameters and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were assessed in field conditions. The results showed that different insecticides at field application dose showed minute insignificant variation in fruit nutritional and total antioxidant activity parameters in comparison to the control samples. The fruit quality parameters also showed minute variation in comparison to the control, except in the case of Triazophos treated samples which showed significant variation (p<0.05) in total soluble sugar content and crude protein.
Soil excavation results determined the structure of elater dominance in grain crops and corn in Belarus. Three click beetle species were dominant: Agriotes sputator L., A. lineatus L., and A. obscurus L. A high efficiency of click beetle sexual pheromone was obtained. The pheromone was synthesised at the Organic Chemistry Department of the Belarussian State University. Click beetle monitoring with the help of pheromone traps, and a technique for defining wireworm population density, and their harmfulness forecast on the caught beetles is developed. The economic thresholds of wireworm harmfulness in agriculture were calculated. Beetle numbers were defined according to those caught in pheromone traps and the beetle numbers corresponded to larvae threshold indicators. An assortment of effective insecticidal seed dressers against the given pests was formed.
