The trade competitiveness of furniture products

86%
The production of wood-based furniture is the final stage in the wood processing chain. Foreign trade in furniture indicates the success of the sector and its competitiveness on international markets. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the trade competitiveness, and its trend, in the furniture manufacturing industry in both the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic for a period of ten years, through the implementation of indicators based on industry foreign trade data and using mathematical and statistical methods. A system of indicators was set up and the hypothesis: “In the furniture industry the competitive potential is used insufficiently” was proposed. The results achieved confirmed the hypothesis, however, despite the furniture industry showing an active foreign trade balance, it contributed little to the country’s trade balance surplus and low values of the indicators of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) were achieved. Therefore, the industry gradually loses its competitive ability.
The paper deals with selected results of survey aimed at consumer preferences for eco-labelled furniture. Special purpose was to evaluate attitudes towards eco-products within specific target group – academic staff. Respondents of our sample consider eco-products rather for good, save and useful products although their price and lack of promotion are perceived negatively by most of respondents.
The aim of this paper is a statistical verification of seasonality phenomenon and calculation of seasonal factors of sold production of furniture in Poland. The work has been prepared on the basis of monthly data from Central Statistical Office for the years 2005-2014. The occurrence of seasonal fluctuations has been determined on the basis of statistical knowledge, using Kruskal-Wallis test. The increase of sold production of furniture occurs in March, September, October and November of each year as a result of seasonality. While, in July the value of sold production of furniture is lower by approximately 14% than the average sub-period, as the result of seasonality.
The European Standards 12721 and 12722 specify a method for the assessment of the surface resistance to wet and dry heat of furniture respectively. The aim of the research is to establish data on the test precision of both tests in order that this precision is mentioned on the standards and test reports based on them. It is intended to measure the reproducibility and repeatability according to the standard ISO 5725-2 of data obtained in an international round-robin exercise carried out by eight participating laboratories expert in furniture surfaces. The results presented show that the repeatability variance is almost 0, while the between-laboratory variance is between 0 and 1, according to the order of increment of the assessment rating code.
This paper deals with the determination of end user attitudes towards different ways of wood utilisation. The preferences of consumers for the selected wood properties in comparison with substitute materials were assessed for the area of joinery products and furniture used in households. The survey was carried out using a questionnaire survey of the selected sample in the Slovak Republic and in Poland. The research identified competitive properties of wood and compared preferences of consumers for wood in both countries.
Application of QFD method for the process of a new furniture preparing The article takes up a subject of proceedings preceding launching a new product on the market. Particular attention was paid to the use of this process QFD technique (Quality Function Deployment or House of Quality, which had already been successfully applied in industries such as: automotive, electronic, or in building. QFD method gives the company an undoubted advantage which is shortening time of the process of preparing a new product and, ipso facto, faster capability to launch it on the market. It is also an instrument that serves to transfer customers' expectations to product’s features. QFD method can be also adopted to the needs for the furniture industry. Indeed, there are reasons to use it, all the more that there is no scientific research prescribing any procedures and methods of implementation in the furniture industry.
