The paper presents the productive potential of the State Forests woodland over the years 1991-2005. Changes that occurred in that period were also analysed and explained. The research showed a distinct increase in forest productivity as measured by stand volume, its net increment, and its average increment. There was a favourable change in the species and age structure of timber. Wood harvesting was also on the rise. This upward tendency was possible due to an increase in timber resources in the recent years and to a forest policy seeking to prevent any decrease in the timber quality of the standing crop.
In this work we deal with questions of raw wood sources for wood-working industry of Slovakia. The tasks were found and evaluated development of resources and possibilities of utilization in regions of Slovakia. For this purposes there were use data of forest economy of Slovakia in 2009 (green report), a data from summary information of forest condition in Slovakia and prognosis of their resources and utilization. On basis results we suggest more intensive utilization of domestic raw wood.
The necessity to combine forest resource management with regional development is a social requirement. The halting of the forestry marginalization trend is the result, among other things, of the lack of strong links between forest management and local communities’ development, as well as the lack of a holistic approach to the space management principles. The paper analyses the causes and possibilities of solving forest, forestry and regional development problems.

Women forest dwellers daily use of forests in Poland

84%
Forests are playing an important role especially for inhabitants of small towns and rural communities. The goal of the research was characterization of the actual means and directions of the use of forest resources by small communities, with emphasis on the importance of women. The objective of the research was to determine most important ways of use of forests in rural areas and their role in social development of families. This paper discusses achievements of survey done in Poland. Data were collected through quantitative questionnaires. A total of more than 1000 female inhabitants responses are statistically worked out and partly presented in this paper.
Land cover change in any ecosystem vary in space and time. The study analyzed spatialtemporal land cover change to predict forest degradation pressure points in Eastern Mau Forest Reserve. The study objectives were to determine types and amount of spatial-temporal land cover change; land cover change drivers and; forest resources use sustainability. The study used mixed sample survey design involving purposive sampling of spatial data and cluster sampling of forest resource use data. Primary data included ground control points, field validation data and forest resource use data. Secondary data included Landsat imagery, forest and administration boundaries and settlements data. Analysis was done for 1986-2014 period using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System. The analysis techniques used included object based image segmentation and classification, accuracy assessment and land cover change detection. Land cover types in Eastern Mau Forest consisted of indigenous forest, shrubland, grassland, plantation forest, cultivated fields, bare ground and built-up area. The analysis results depicted that cultivated fields coverage increased from 1% to 47%. Indigenous and plantation forests decreased from 43% to 36% and 34% to 7% respectively. Grassland and shrubland decreased from 16% to 8% and 6% to 2% respectively. Bare ground and built up area had a change of less than 1% each. Causes of pressure that lead to forest degradation included crop cultivation, settlement construction, livestock grazing, charcoal burning, firewood collection, logging, bee keeping and medicinal herbs extraction. Land cover change was more on the eastern side than on the western side. Indigenous and plantation forests were likely to disappear if cropland and built up area expansions were to remain unchecked. The study recommendations were: resettlement activities be eliminated in the Eastern Mau Forest; excision of forest land for crop cultivation should be discouraged; and scientific research should be carried out on sustainable plantation forest activities.
W pracy przedstawiono teoretyczne i metodyczne podstawy nowej metody programowania rozwoju zasobów leśnych w przerębowo-zrębowym sposobie zagospodarowania z rębnią częściową. Istotą tej metody jest wybór takiego kierunku rozwoju zasobów leśnych w najbliższym 10-leciu, który zapewni trwały i zrównoważony rozwój omawianego rodzaju gospodarstwa.
Trees4Future is an Integrative European Research Infrastructure project that aims to integrate, develop and improve major Forest Genetics and Forestry Research Infrastructures. It will provide the wider European forestry research community with easy and comprehensive access to currently scattered sources of information (including genetic databanks, forest modelling tools and wood technology labs) and associated expertise. This will help forestry researchers and the European forestry sector to respond, in a sustainable manner, to increasing demands for wood products and services in the context of genetic adaptation and changing climatic conditions. It will create a new and better linked Research Infrastructure that will optimize the short- and long-term exploitation of forest resources by increasing knowledge of, for example, the adaptation of forests to climate change, and the tree characteristics suitable for a tailor-made wood supply.
Forestry organization is both the main stakeholder in policy making and the application process, and an important policy instrument in reaching policy objectives. Thus, the managers of national forestry organizations play an important role in achieving the sustainable use and management of forest resources. The main aim of this paper is to determine Turkish forest managers’ perceptions of the main forestry issues and the factors that influence these perceptions. In this direction, the opinions of top-level managers of the Turkish Regional Forest Directorates toward forest functions, the problems that occur during the management process, and foremost issues to gain importance in the future were evaluated through a questionnaire. The study covers all 27 regional forest directorates, which conduct their activities all over the country under the General Directorate of Forestry. The results of the study show that forest managers recognize the importance of sociocultural and environmental-ecological functions of forest resources, similar to international trends. They also strongly emphasized some problems associated with national circumstances such as cadastral and ownership problems, deficiency in personnel motivation, and problems occurring in forest-society relations.
