Five years have passed since the outbreak of the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl. The results of the investigation in the threatened area (122 000 km² ) show that from the Byelorussia alone 2 million inhabitants should be evecuated, including half a million children. If sedimentation tanks with silt are not built in Kiev region, the Black Sea is likely to be contaminated. A result of two-year investigation, the recently published by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report on the effects of the disaster does not take into account the measurements made in Byelorussia, so it is unreliable. It is essential to create a special research centre to study all the problems of the polluted zone, as it is the only way to control the phenomena which occur on the whole large area. Such a centre is being organized by Professor Volkov in Pinsk.
