The aim of the article is to present the results of economic analysis of the basic operating activity of PKP Intercity by using productivity ratios. The analysis is based on the PKP Group financial reports from 2004 – 2013. The basic research method was the analysis of the efficiency, Energy intensity and material consumption indicators from the basic operating activity. The financial results of basic operating activity and rail transport performance in passenger kilometres and train kilometres are considered as the result of PKP Intercity activity. The examined company made profits till 2008. At the end of 2008 PKP Group was restructured, which was the reason of the company’s profitability collapse. The causes of this phenomenon can be clearly noticed during the observation of work efficiency, Energy intensity and material consumption indicators in the basic operating activity. With theuse of particular indicators, a simulation of the company’s revenues from basic operating activity has been carried out using what-if analysis. It turned out, that the best solution would be bringing back the work efficiency from before 2008. It could be done in a few ways: significant reduction of employment (especially in administration), significant increase of train connections and the rise of ticket prices.
Sector competitiveness does not constitute a simple sum of factors identified on different levels of economic analysis. It turns out that competitiveness is determined by both measurable and non-measurable factors. A growing influence of behavioural factors inclines to undertake aggregate research attempts of a qualitative nature. The authors of this paper have made an effort to confront the price and non-price factors of competitiveness based on a specific sector of economy, i.e. the round wood market in Poland.

The main objective of this study is to carry out a complex economic analysis of organic manure application. Researches were carried for years 2010-2015. Organic manure, a by-product of animal husbandry, is one of the oldest and most valuable materials in agriculture. The primary purpose of using organic manure is to improve soil fertility. Since the 90s, Hungary has been facing changes in the ownership of agricultural ventures, the number of big farms decreased and the amount of livestock was reduced in the main sectors of animal husbandry. Hungary, as a member of the European Union, has to conform to the current environmental protection regulations which also refer to the disposal of organic manure that can only be performed if significant investments are made. It can be concluded that the economic efficiency of organic manure application is primarily determined by transport distance and the specific transport method. In addition, the establishment of manure containers can be considered to be unproductive investments which affect the economic efficiency of using organic manure negatively.
The paper presents a discussion concerning leasing which may become one of the forms of animal production in farms as it would permit the development of livestock buildings construction despite poor financial standing of the farms and high interest rate on investment credits. The paper presentes the current situation in livestock buildings construction, the basic forms of leasing and the methods for economic analysis permitting the choise of a method of financing livestock building construction. An example of application of leasing in providing a medium size farm with livestock buildings was presented.
