A catalogue of Chilean Elateridae is included with 11 subfamilies: Cebrioninae Latreille, Agrypninae Candèze, Lissominae Laporte, Semiotinae Jakobson, Campyloxeninae Costa, Pytiobiininae Hyslop, Dendrometrinae Gistel, Negastriinae Nakane and Kishii, Elaterinae Leach, Cardiophorinae Candèze, and Physodactylinae Lacordaire 1857, distributed in 52 genera and 140 species.
The second part of the world catalogue of Goriocephalum Solier, 1834 contains the list of the type species preserved in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Hungary, Budapest), the list of the papers on Gonocephahim species and additional data for 95 species and subspecies. At present, 417 species and subspecies belong to the genus Gonocephalum.
The catalogue of all known World species of the subtribe Melambiina Mulsant et Rey, 1854 is presented: 24 genera, 195 species and subspecies are listed. The data of primary types is included. Distribution for known species and subspecies is listed and presented on the maps.
The Natural History Museum [NHM], London, formerly the British Museum (Natural History) [BM(NH)], is a centre of biological systematic collections having worldwide coverage. The small but significant historical collections of Cephalopoda are rich in type material (41 cuttlefish; 51 squid; 73 octopods) and have recently been transformed by the addition of the extensive Discovery collections and the Malcolm Clarke collection of Cephalopoda collected from Sperm Whales, both having come from the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences. A list of the Cephalopoda type collections has not been published for 150 years and shuld he of value to workers on the systematics of the group.
The classification of the Languriidae is reviewed and a catalogue of the 98 described genera is provided. Salient adult characters and comments on the monophyly are discussed for each family group. Notes on the taxonomic status of genera are included and type species are designated for Glisonotha Motschulsky (Glysonotha setosa Motschulsky), Lacertobelus Gorham (Lacertobelus dentipes Gorham), Leptolanguria Fowler (Languria longicollis Fowler), Loberolus Grouvelle (Loberolus agilis Grouvelle), Ortholanguroides Fowler (Ortholanguroides egensis Fowler), and Philophlaeus Germain (Philophlaeus aeneus Germain). Two generic names proposed are Slipinskiella, new name (type species: Languria dimidiata Guérin-Méneville; fifty new combinations) and Crowsonguptus, new name (type species: Coelocryptus mexicanus Sharp; four new combinations). One specific name is proposed: Hapalips investigatus new name (for Hapalips fuscus (Lea) new combination, nec Hapalips fuscus Reitter). New generic synonymies are given as follows: Cathartocryptus Sharp (= Xenoscelinus Grouvelle; seven new combinations), Isolanguria Lea (= Hapalips Reitter; one new combination) and Tetraphala Sturm (= Tetralanguria Crotch, = Tetralanguroides Fowler, = Metabelus Gorham; twenty three new combinations). The genera Stenodina Fairmaire and Fitoa Dajoz are transferred from Endomychidae to Languriidae. The species name Pachylanguria paivae Wollaston is corrected to Pachylanguria paivai.
The species of Languriidae, Erotylidae, and Helotidae in the “Erotylidae” collection of George Robert Crotch, preserved at the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge, England, are cataloged. The label data of potential type material are recorded. The present combination or status of each taxon is provided.
The catalogue of all known species of the melanocratoid lineage of the subtribe Platynotina Koch, 1953 is presented. Eight genera containing 30 species are listed. The data of primary and secondary types is provided. Distribution of the species is listed and illustrated on 9 maps. New distributional data is published for: Melanocratus fairmairei Iwan, 1996, M. validipes Fairmaire, 1895, Sebastianus madagascariensis Iwan, 1999, S. magnus Iwan, 1996, S. ovoideus (Fairmaire, 1902), S. projectus Iwan, 1996, Styphacus girardi Iwan, 2004 and S. phreneticus Iwan, 1996. The relationship between species richness and Malagasy ecoregions is analysed and discussed. MaxEnt software was used to model the hypothetical range of chosen species and indicate the most important abiotic factors responsible for observed distribution. Results of MaxEnt analysis suggest that the precipitation has the major limiting impact from all of analysed factors.
