The lysimetric studies were carried out in 1991-1995 on different soils to estimate the yield and water use of grassland (three-cut meadow) under different water regimes. Significant differences in evapotranspiration and the yield enabled to determine an optimum groundwater level which should be maintained at the depth 90-100 cm in good soils and 50-60 cm in worse soils. In consequence, a meadow can give 10-11 t/ha of hay using 500-600 mm of water. Maintaining high groundwater levels at the depth 30-40 cm in peat-moorsh soils, is recommended for the protection of organic soils, the water use for evapotranspiration is by 100-150 mm higher while the yield increase is small (less than 1 t/ha of hay).
Stwierdzono zależność ilości wody odciekającej z profilu glebowego użytków zielonych od wysokości plonowania, spowodowanego bądź to sposobem użytkowania (łąka, pastwisko, ruń o wysokości 8-15 cm), bądź wielkością stosowanego nawożenia azotowego.
The studies were conducted in 1,1 m. Deep lysimeters, filled with soil monolith with a non disturbed structure. The monolith was constitued by a mineral soil, type degraded black earth.
A synthesis of three-year-long lysimetric studies on the effects of various ground water levels and NPK rates on meadow sward yields, production efficiency and fertilization at various soil conditions has been made. It was shown that production potential of sub-irrigated meadows and water and fertilizer production efficiency on the soils studied were dependent most of all on the water and nutrient availability.
